Thelma Barlow, 91, Born In 1929 – Coronation Street
Thelma Barlow was famous for playing newsagent Mavis Wilton in Coronation Street. She played the role for 26 years, but she didn’t struggle for work after leaving the show. She actually ended up starring in another popular British sitcom called dinnerladies which had a short but popular run on TV.
She also starred in an episode of Doctor Who and got a few stage productions under her belt with roles in Blithe Spirit and Arsenic and Old Lace. She may never return to play Mavis, though, at least that’s according to an interview she did in 2020. She last featured in a 2019 documentary called Coronation Street at Christmas.
