Silence thickened the air as he waited for an explanation. But the lady remained tight-lipped, her eyes darting between Toby and the aged book, weighing the gravity of the situation. Out of nowhere, her words sliced through the suspense, taking a direction Toby least expected. “Kid,” she uttered, her voice strangely stern yet urgent, “you need to get out of here. NOW.”
