Alun Armstrong, 74, Born In 1946 – New Tricks

Alun Armstrong got into acting after his grammar school’s Shakespeare productions inspired him. The English actor was the first to play the character of Thénardier in the Les Misérables London production. On top of that feat, he also has an Olivier Award for his titular role in Sweeney Todd.
As for on-screen acting, Armstrong has credits for numerous Charles Dickens adaptations. British audiences would also recognize him for playing the ex-detective Brian Lane in New Tricks. Armstrong is a big fan of the football club AFC Wimbledon, just like his character in the BBC One show.
