As he whizzed by, he must have felt a sense of pride knowing that he was embodying the values that the superhero stood for. But not many know that Captain America was originally created as a propaganda tool during World War II.
His creator, Joe Simon, wanted a character that embodied the virtues of America and inspired patriotism. And inspire he did—the superhero has become a cultural icon, representing justice, freedom, and the American way. This man may not have been fighting off villains, but he certainly looks the part.
