’60s Icon Alexandra Bastedo in “The Champions”

Animal rights advocate and the star of the famous British TV series “The Champions,” Alexandra Bastedo debuted with a role in the not-so-well received 1963 movie “13 Frightened Girls.” Author of a best-selling memoir named “Beware Dobermanns, Donkeys and Ducks,” she has also written two other books on feline and canine care.

Her role in the care of animals was much beyond that. Bastedo founded a shelter named Alexandra Bastedo Champions (ABC) Animal Sanctuary. Sussexexpress.co.uk reports that the actress left almost £900K worth of donations, all for wildlife welfare, in her will, as revealed after she passed away in 2014.
