From A Broken Heart to Breaking Records, Meet the Real Taylor Swift!

Born to Shine

Taylor Swift, born to Andrea and Scott Swift on December 13, 1989, grew up in Pennsylvania. Her dad, Scott, worked as a stockbroker, and her mom, Andrea, was a former marketing executive. Named after legendary musician James Taylor and with a grandmother, Marjorie Finlay, who was an opera singer and TV personality, Taylor’s rise to fame seemed destined.

Her love for music blossomed early, performing in school plays and children’s theater. At nine, she took voice and acting lessons in New York City. By eleven, she sang the national anthem at a Philadelphia 76ers game and decided to pursue country music, inspired by idols Shania Twain and Faith Hill.
