Madonna made history in 1994 when her interview with David Letterman became the most censored interview on a prime-time talk show. We might have become quite used to the “Material Girl” singer’s antics over the decades, but during the late ’80s and ’90s, she was seemingly always in the mood for some controversy.

From her 1989 music video for “Like A Prayer” that portrayed religious satire to her iconic 1992 book that basically discusses nothing but coitus, Madonna has mastered the art of controversial marketing. In her now-legendary interview with Letterman, she went on to drop 14 F-bombs live on air as the two got into a playfully heated exchange.
