The 50 Points NBA Saga: Is The Basketball Game Getting Loose?
Recent NBA games have become so unpredictable that watchers can not help but predict how long an NBA record will last. Since 2006, the highest number of NBA points ever scored in a single game was 65. On January 2, 2023, the Cleveland Cavaliries’ Donovan Mitchell broke this long-lasting record by scoring 71 points. Another thing that has become commonplace is scoring 50 points in an NBA is becoming more achievable.

Sky Sports / With more NBA players scoring 50 points in a single NBA game, it gets us thinking about whether or not the defense is getting loose.
In the early days of the NBA, scoring 50 points in a single game was a big deal. Today, the trend has shifted. For instance, Luka Doncic scored 60, 51, and 50 points, respectively, in three different NBA games. Recently, Giannis Antetokounmpo scored 5o points in a single NBA game. Similarly, Darius Garland and Pascal Siacam are other NBA athletes who have scored 50 points in a single NBA game.
Scoring 50 Points Becomes the New Normal in the NBA
Now, the trend of scoring 50 points in a single NBA game is becoming the new normal. NBA enthusiast wonder who is to blame here? Is the defense that is becoming weaker than it used to be? Or, is it the offense that is becoming stronger than before? Because we never know who will be the next one on the list of 50 points scorers. Since most NBA players are achieving the 50 points milestone, it is all set to be the new trend.

Most importantly, this trend makes NBA fans question the records that are being made in the NBA game. “How long will they last?” They ask themselves in disbelief. Well, we do not know. If Luka Doncic and Klay Thompson do it today, maybe Kevon Looney will do it tomorrow. And how about Donovan Mitchell’s record-breaking 71 points? Looking at this trend of scoring high scores in an NBA game, can we assume that this (71 points) will last long? For all we know, someone else will kick in and score 80 or even 100 in a single NBA game.
No NBA Record Lasts Long!
Sounds too good to be true? Well, good luck! Stay tuned to the upcoming NBA games, and you will be surprised to see that Donovan Mitchell’s record scores will no longer remain a record anymore. Not in a far-fetched future, though! But somewhere in the nearest soon.

Sports Wit / As Luka Doncic, Klay Thompson, and other NBA players score 50 points, perhaps Kevon Looney is the next one to set an NBA record.
So, who is to blame here? Well, nobody actually. The game is becoming more interesting than it used to be. Of course, the offense is getting more stubborn than ever before. But it does not mean that the defense is weakening. It is not!
Sure enough! Today, Donovan Mitchell has made history by scoring 71 points. But tomorrow, someone else will kick in with flex and whisk away the current record, as it is bound to be eliminated. And this is what makes the NBA a game of the cool.
